PDF Some Increased Volatility Following Powell Testimony We are seeing some increased volatility on the Jerome Powell testimony before the House Financial Services Committee. Powell is not inclined toward the convenient dovishness of his predecessors, Yellen and Bernanke, and that is causing some reactions. The indices have finally pulled back but we also have the iShares Barclays 20+ Year Treasury Bond ( TLT )  dropping sharply as the dollar moves higher. Precious metals are under pressure and overall breadth is running 3 to 1 negative. The big question here is whether this is another spark that is going to cause some unraveling similar to what happened to the short volatility trade. It wasn't a big move in rates that caused that last meltdown. It was just a triggering event that caused a major shift in the algorithms that had been driving things straight up.
