Bitcoin holds above $8,000, as cryptocurrency market trades higher Bitcoin extended its ascent above $8,000 on Thursday, retaining its slight uptrend following remarks from Wall Street regulators that were read as mostly upbeat. The price of a single bitcoin BTCUSD, +2.54% gained as much as 13.6% to an intraday high of $8,621.28, bouncing off a session low of $7,576.25, according to news and research site CoinDesk . The price of bitcoin remains well below a level of $10,000 seen a week ago, and its December peak above $19,000, but has recovered from a nadir around $6,000 on Tuesday. The ‘invisible rich’: There’s now an index tracking cryptocurrency fortunes Ether, the coin on the Ethereum network, saw a similar rise, up 8.3% to an intraday peak at $824.24, while bitcoin cash led the way, rising by as much as 28% to trade above $1,250.
