Oil prices stabilize after volatility triggered by global stock plunge Oil prices traded mixed early Wednesday, largely stabilizing after Brent crude hit its lowest level this year, swept up in the volatility which has rocked global stock markets this week. March West Texas Intermediate crude CLH8, -0.63% slipped 17 cents, or 0.2%, at $63.23 a barrel and had traded as high as $64.18. Its finish at $63.39 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Tuesday was the lowest finish since Jan. 19, according to FactSet data. Brent for April LCOJ8, -0.27% edged up 2 cents, or less than 0.1%, to $66.91 a barrel. Its finish at $66.86 a barrel Tuesday was a roughly five-week low on the ICE Futures Europe exchange. Oil prices sunk earlier this week after global markets plummeted on Monday, with the Dow DJIA, +2.33% posting its biggest one-session decline on record, marking a return of volatility to stocks.
