U.S. oil prices drop below $60 for first time this year Oil prices headed lower for a sixth straight session on Friday, with the U.S. benchmark dropping below $60 a barrel for the first time in 2018, on track to notch its biggest weekly loss in almost a year Investors continued to worry about a surge in U.S. production and the recent selloff in equity markets. March West Texas Intermediate crude CLH8, -2.29% dropped $1.26, or 2.1%, to $59.89 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices fell below $60 in intraday trading for the first time since late December. For the week, it was on track for a more than 8% weekly slide, which would be the biggest since March last year. April Brent crude LCOJ8, -2.18% the global oil benchmark, fell $1.31, or 2% to $63.50 a barrel on London’s ICE Futures exchange. Brent has retreated roughly 7.4% this week. Crude has declined because of “the profit taking from investors who propped up prices to over $70 dollar Brent over the last month,“
