Stocks renew slide, as Dow plunges more than 600 points Last Updated Feb 8, 2018 12:44 PM EST U.S. stocks traded lower on Thursday amid jitters over volatility prompted by huge swings earlier this week in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The Dow slipped more than 500 points, or 2 percent, to 24,362 in afternoon trading. The S&P 500 index and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index also fell by just under 2 percent. Across the globe, stocks were mixed Thursday, with European stocks declining after gains in Asian, as investors appeared skittish after this week's financial turmoil. The pound rose sharply after the U.K. central bank signaled it could raise interest rates soon. Britain's FTSE 100 closed down 1.5 percent to 7,170.69 points and France's CAC 40 dropped 1.9 percent to 5,151.68. Germany's DAX declined 2.6 percent to 12,260.29.
