U.S. stocks rebound after a day of volatile trading Last Updated Feb 6, 2018 4:23 PM EST U.S. indices rebounded on Tuesday afternoon, one day after the Dow Jones industrial average suffered its worst percentage decline since August 2011 and its biggest point drop in history. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose sharply in late afternoon trading, gaining 567 points, or 2.3 percent, to close at 24,913. The comeback followed a volatile morning when stocks opened sharply lower but regained ground slightly in early trading. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indices followed suit, initially sliding but recovering soon after trading opened. Despite the bounceback, the steep losses from Friday and Monday's trading sessions have erased the U.S. market's gains from the start of this year, ending long period of calm with a pullback that market pros have been predicting for some time.
