Q. Without asking or telling me, the city planted new trees on my block, including one in front of my three-family house in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn. We don’t need or want this albatross — there are thousands of perfectly good trees right across the street in Prospect Park. I want the tree removed and the sidewalk restored at the city’s expense because I am concerned about cracked concrete, leaves falling in the autumn, rats, and dog and bird droppings. I also do not want to lose our northern light, or any property value because a tree would eventually block our park view. What are my options? A. The area between the curb and your property line belongs to the city, not you. So, if the city wants to a plant tree there, it may do so.
