ATLANTA, Nov. 10, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Atlantic American Corporation (Nasdaq- AAME) today reported net income for the three month period ended September 30, 2020 of $1.9 million, or $0.09 per diluted share, as compared to net loss of $1.4 million, or $0.07 per diluted share, for the comparable period in 2019. For the nine month period ended September 30, 2020, the Company reported net income of $0.3 million, or nil per diluted share, as compared to net loss of $1.7 million, or $0.10 per diluted share, for the comparable period in 2019. The increase in net income during the third quarter of 2020 was primarily due to a $5.5 million decrease in insurance benefits and losses incurred somewhat offset by a decrease in unrealized gains on equity securities of $1.7 million for the third quarter of 2020 as compared to the third quarter of 2019. The increase in net income for the nine month period ended September 30, 2020 was primarily due to a $14.3 million decrease in insurance benefits
