© John Smith Apple's New Low-Cost iPads Aim for Market Share Apple (AAPL) is reportedly launching a new lower-cost iPad to try to shore up its market share in the increasingly competitive mobile device market. Load Error Apple will announce the new models along with new education software at an education-focused event Tuesday at Lane Technicial College Prep High School in Chicago. The technology giant is trying to lure back teachers and students who have increasingly started to rely on software from Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) and Google Inc. (GOOGL), according to a Bloomberg report . This marks Apple’s first education-related product launch in six years. In 2012, it released a tool to design iPad e-books. The announcement is also unusual in that Apple usually makes its product launches in California.
