Credit: Getty Royalty Free Nearly half of the nation’s physicians report compensation tied to “value-based metrics” as fee-for-service medicine gives way to alternative payment models that link pay to quality and health outcomes, according to a new survey. The biennial survey from The Physicians Foundation shows 47% of physicians have some of their compensation tied to value-based payments . The survey, which includes responses from more than 9,000 physicians, is conducted by physician staffing and recruitment firm MerrittHawkins. The increasing amount of pay tied to value-based metrics is a significant jump from 42% of physicians in 2016 who answered “yes” to a question asking if any of their compensation is tied to “value-based metrics such as patient satisfaction, electronic health record (EHR) use, cost control, readmission rates, etc.” The survey comes at a time health insurers say they are shifting more than half of their payments to va
