Chase Elliott earned his first Cup victory, the grandstands appeared to be nearly full for the road-course race at Watkins Glen, N.Y., and NBC got a ratings bump. Then the series went to Michigan International Speedway, 75 miles west of the actual Motor City. The grandstands, which had been reduced to fewer than 60,000 seats, were no more than one-third full. Kevin Harvick won his seventh race of 2018, and NBC’s ratings slipped by 17% from last year. Tiger Woods and the PGA golf tournament was certainly a factor.
