WEST CHESTER, Ohio, March 15, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AK Steel (NYSE: AKS) announced today that it has accepted an award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) High Performance Computing for Manufacturing (HPC4Mfg) Program. The HPC4Mfg Program's $300,000 award will support the use of the DOE National Laboratory’s advanced computing resources where the collaborative research with AK Steel will take place to help drive innovation in manufacturing processes. Researchers from AK Steel will work in collaboration with scientists from the Computational Engineering Division of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to build a Fast Acting Reduced Ordered Model (FA-ROM) to predict the properties of a finished steel coil after hot rolling to continue to improve product consistency, provide immediate feedback on product quality, and to save time, money and energy by reducing expensive industrial trials.
