Chip stocks bounce back, but Morgan Stanley has concerns about the future Even with Tuesday’s bounceback, chip-related stocks are caught in a downdraft fueled by concerns of oversupply and analysts at Morgan Stanley don’t think the sector is quite out of the woods yet. The PHLX Semiconductor Index SOX, +3.31% rallied 3.1% Tuesday, on track for its largest one-day percentage gain since April 10, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, +2.89% surged 2.5% and the S&P 500 index gained 1.8%. In October alone, the SOX index has shed 6.3%. The SOX index, which had been up as much as 15% on the year, is only up 2.1% for the year, compared with a 10.3% gain on the Nasdaq and a 4.8% rise in the S&P 500.
