Thesis I have initiated a position in AMEDISYS ( AMED ). It represents less than 1% of my portfolio. I made this investment in concert with an investment in rival LHC Group ( LHCG ), which I discuss in a separate article. AMEDISYS is the third largest player in both the Home Health and Hospice markets and has a small but growing presence in the Personal Care Services (PCS) market. Home Health and Hospice are primarily Medicare markets. And PCS is paid for by Medicaid . In early December , a federal court in Texas ruled that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was unconstitutional. The ruling is being appealed and may end up in the Supreme Court. If the Texas ruling is upheld, the ACA will no longer be law and the consequences to the US healthcare system will likely be severe . I decided to take advantage of market fear and buy AMEDISYS. If the ACA is overturned, it will create a massive amount of uncertainty about the future of the US healthcare system. However, I
