Question: does moving one's data processing operations to Amazon Web Services make his or her company a digital enterprise? Does offering online access to order status get one there? Does putting out an app mean entree into digital nirvana? There's no end to the optimism that digital brings to the business realm. At the same time, there's no end to the confusion and dashed expectations, either. Sometimes, the transformation is clear cut. I have a friend and colleague who took the reigns of a small specialized publishing company a few years back, and has moved all functions -- from content management to subscriptions -- to cloud services, while taking full advantage of platforms such as podcasting and social media.
