Avon loss narrows but revenue misses estimates Avon Products Inc. AVP, +2.52% said Thursday it had a net loss of $37 million, or 9 cents a share, in the second quarter, narrower than the loss of $46 millin, or 12 cents a share, posted in the year-earlier period. Adjusted per-share loss came to 3 cents a share, wider than the FactSet consensus for breakeven. Revenue fell 3% to $$1.352 billion from $1.395 billion, below the FactSet consensus of $1.398 billion. Chief Executive Jan Zijderveld said he was encouraged by revenue growth in three of the company's top markets. "However, we are not yet satisfied with the overall operating results of the quarter," he said. The company is now focused on its representative experience and is planning enhanced training and new sales incentives. "We will support our second half global launches with an additional $30 million of advertising and marketing spend," he said.
