Axovant in-licenses two new gene therapies, shares up 6% after hoursAxovant Sciences (NASDAQ:AXON) is up6% after hours in response to itsannouncement that it has secured exclusive global rights to two gene therapy programs from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The candidates will potentially treat two inherited enzyme deficiency disorders calledGMI gangliosidosis, also known as Landing disease, andGM2 gangliosidosis which includes Tay-Sachs disease and Sandhoff disease.Under the term of the license agreement, UMass Med School will receive undisclosed development, regulatory and commercial milestones.Both gene therapies, AXO-AAV-GM1 and AXO-AAV-GM2, are designed to introduce function copies of the respective genes that encode the defective or absent enzymes.The GM1 therapy should enter the clinic in H1 2019 with preliminary data expected in H2 2019.
