Credit via Sotheby's A Massachusetts judge refused Tuesday to block a major sale of artworks by the Berkshire Museum, including two paintings by Norman Rockwell, that are to be auctioned by Sotheby’s starting Monday in Manhattan. Judge John A. Agostini’s order clears the way for the deaccessioning of the works that the financially strapped museum has said it must sell to ensure its survival. Two groups of plaintiffs, including three sons of Rockwell, had opposed the sale, saying it was unnecessary and unlawful, and asked for a temporary restraining order to stop it.
