Why the market isn’t punishing the dollar amid trade-war worries The U.S. dollar has so far been spared from the negative impact of trade war worries that have weighed on other major developed currencies. But that’s not because a trade war would be good for the U.S., but rather because a trade dispute initially would be so much worse for its trading partners, analysts said. A rise of protectionism has the potential to hurt the U.S. However, for now, a mix of political strife, fiscal stimulus and worries about conditions in the bond market may allow the dollar to strengthen further against its main rivals.
