Pratt & Whitney’s signature commercial product, the ed Turbofan, is emerging from the global pandemic in better shape than other turbofans.Data compiled by Pratt from the Aviation Week Intelligence Network indicates that on the Airbus A320neo, where the ed Turbofan (GTF) competes against CFM’s LEAP engine, GTF utilization has outpaced that of LEAP during most of the pandemic.Furthermore, its lead appears to be growing.Although overall utilization of the commercial transport fleet has been severely reduced during the pandemic, the general pattern has been for GTF-equipped transports to be the last planes taken out of service, and the first planes returned to service.Pratt's engine enables the fan (1) at the front of the engine to turn more slowly than the...
