Oil falls for the session, but U.S. benchmark logs 3rd weekly gain in a row Crude-oil futures settled lower Friday, but gained for the week, as investors wrestled with persistent growth in U.S. crude production against the backdrop of expected disruptions to the flow of oil in the Middle East. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, June West Texas Intermediate crude CLM8, -0.21% the U.S. benchmark, fell 21 cents, or 0.3%, to end at $71.28 a barrel, after settling at a 3½-year high over the past two sessions. Prices rose 0.8% for the week—a third straight weekly rise. July Brent crude LCON8, -0.78% lost 79 cents, or 1%, to settle at $78.51 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe. Prices for the global benchmark, which topped $80 in intraday trading Thursday for the first time since November 2014, ended 1.8% higher for the week.
