Oil pulls back from 4-year high as impact from Iran sanctions scrutinized Oil futures pulled back slightly from the roughly four-year highs scored a day earlier as attention remained fixed on declines in Iranian exports ahead of an approaching deadline for further U.S. sanctions on the nation. Oil slipped amid mixed predictions over whether major oil producers will make up Iran’s supply gap. That uncertainty drove both benchmark contracts to their highest settlements since late 2014 on Wednesday, despite data showing the largest weekly rise of the year in U.S. crude inventories. Early Thursday, November West Texas Intermediate crude CLX8, -0.18% the U.S. benchmark contract, slipped 10 cents, or 0.1%, to $76.31 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. December Brent LCOZ8, -0.16% fell 12 cents, or 0.1%, to $86.17 a barrel.
