UPDATE 3-Callon Petroleum slashes Carrizo bid, hoping to save shale merger - Reuters 4 Min Read (New throughout, adds details, Paulson no comment, updates share price) By Gary McWilliams HOUSTON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - U.S. shale producer Callon Petroleum on Thursday sharply cut its offer for rival Carrizo Oil & Gas postponed a shareholder vote in a last ditch effort to win support for the deal. The new terms value Carrizo at about $723 million down from $1.2 billion in July, when Callon first made the offer. Callon shares tumbled after the bid, reducing the value of the all stock deal. It was the first major shale proposal since Occidental Petroleum Corp bid for Anadarko in April. That deal closed in August even though it was opposed by some major Occidental shareholders, and the Callon bid was seen as a test of whether investors would be willing to go along with shale mergers designed to boost production volumes.
