There's likely more at play than a decrease from pandemic demand. FactSet estimates call for a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 795,000 new single-family homes sold in October, slightly down from a preliminary 800,000 in September. Such a rate would be down significantly from the same period last year, but higher than any other seasonally adjusted annual rate for October since 2006. Eyes are on the housing market to see if an unusually hot 2021 will carry into the new year. The pandemic prompted a surge of home buyers. Supply, meanwhile, remained relatively tight.
