UPDATE 1-D.R. Horton's profit beats estimates as home sales rise | Reuters Reuters Staff 2 Min Read (Adds details on earnings, forecast) April 26 (Reuters) - D.R. Horton Inc reported a higher-than-expected increase in quarterly profit as the largest U.S. homebuilder sold about 15 percent more homes, underscoring strong demand for housing in the United States. Orders, an indicator of future revenue for homebuilders, rose about 13 percent to 15,828 homes in the second quarter ended March 31. D.R. Horton, which mainly sells single-family homes, said it sold 12,281 homes in the quarter, up from 10,685 a year earlier. The Fort Worth, Texas-based company raised the low-end of its full-year revenue forecast to $15.9 billion from $15.5 billion, while keeping the high end at $16.3 billion. Economic data on Tuesday showed new home sales in the United States increased more than expected in March, while consumer confidence rebounded in April, indicating underlying strength in the economy.
