This has been decidedly bad news for DineEquity ( NYSE:DIN ) , the parent company of Applebee's and IHOP. What happened While sales at IHOP were down 1.7% compared to the first quarter of fiscal 2017, the big drop was at Applebee's. That brand, which has been struggling for a while now , saw same-store sales plunge by 7.9%. In addition, earnings per diluted share dropped to $0.79 from $1.37, year over year. Those numbers continued recent trends, leading to investors sending shares of the stock down in May.
