Dow falls 200 points as biggest retail sales drop in a decade thwarts US-China trade optimism © Mark Schiefelbein/Pool via REUTERS Stocks fell on Thursday as the release of much weaker-than-expected retail sal data offset optimism around ongoing trade talks. Load Error The Dow Jon Industrial Average dropped 00 points, led by loss in Coca-Cola. The S&P 00 slid 0.7 perct as the consumer stapl and discretionary sectors lagged. The Nasdaq Composite declined 0. perct. Retail sal fell . perct in December, marking their biggt monthly drop since September 009, according to The Commerce Departmt. The departmt also said retail sal fell 0.9 perct in December wh excluding gasoline station sal. "This number was terrible," said Peter Boockvar, chief invtmt officer at Bleakley Advisory Group, in a note. "The US consumer is holding the global economy on its shoulders.
