The astounding stupidity of a cadre of local politicians and their fight against 25,000 high-paying jobs finally reached its fruition today with Amazon's announcement Amazon’s investment was to be in two phases. First was to be the acquisition by Amazon of a block of space in LIC's Citigroup tower, which is managed by privately-held Savanna. That block was listed as one million square feet by Savanna, although the NYC Economic Development Corp listed it at 500,000 square feet. That space was to be freed up by Citi's decision to move personnel to other locations. It is unclear as of this writing whether that lease will agreement will be fulfilled, although it seems unlikely.
