Every three months, the collective love affair the financial community has with retailers waxes and wanes faster than a toddler scrolling through unboxing videos on YouTube. I take great amusement in the season now here because, if a company's stock price is supposed to be a forward-looking assessment of long-term prospects to create value, it is hard to ascertain how, barring a few exceptions, any legacy retailer’s stock price could be better positioned today than it was one year ago. Yet, that is where the industry, in many cases finds itself today. Despite the aggressive onslaught of Amazon, the sleeping giants of Google and Facebook still not yet awoken, and the formidable innovators overseas like Alibaba waiting to jump into the game, the industry and the financial community still look upon short-term quarterly earnings reports like Indiana Jones finding a gold-plated head deep inside
