Fresh VC Pessimism Dooms Companies -- Like Snap -- That Can't Scale Getty Silicon Valley is the world capital of extreme emotion. While Wall Street swings on the basis of opaque trading algorithms, Silicon Valley is far easier to decode. As I wrote in February 2016 That latest swing to FOLE was triggered by the plunge in the NASDAQ which began in early October and leaves that tech-heavy index down 12% from its August high, according to the Wall Street Journal This means that VCs -- who are seeking to avoid the "Shame of Being Suckered" (the same concept as FOLE) -- are increasingly turning their backs on startups that miss their numbers -- forcing layoffs, cutting valuations, and shuttering those that can't raise more capital, according to the Journal.
