Before cutting edge technologies like self-driving cars become mainstream, companies and researchers must ensure that they can audit and inspect the underlying artificial intelligence technologies. That’s one of the takeaways from a panel at Fortune ’s annual Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Colo. about AI’s impact on humanity. One of the panel participants was former Epic Games (the developer of the popular Fortnite video game ) president Mike Capps, who is now the CEO of the Raleigh, NC-based software startup Diveplan. In an interview with Fortune prior to the session, Capps explained that Diveplan is testing a product with corporate customers that lets them audit their data crunching technology. In that way, they can learn how their computers make decisions in fields like healthcare and financial services.
