European Auto Sales Slip With Stagnation Expected For The Year European auto sales slipped 1.6% in the first 9 months of 2019, and look set to generate the stagnation label for all of the year. According to the European Automobile Makers Association, known by its French acronym ACEA, the latest data for September showed a confusing spurt of 14.5% compared with the same month last year. This was because sales were depressed last September as new European Union regulations on fuel consumption upset manufacturer’s production schedules. That couldn't hide the lack-lustre performance for the first nine months of 2019. Standout performers on the negative side in Western Europe were led by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ sporty subsidiary Alfa Romeo, with sales off 43.3% for the nine months at 39,020, according to ACEA.
