Why Gerdau is a Brazilian play on U.S. steel ADRs of Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau (NYSE: GGB ) have been down in the past couple of months (~20% since peaking on November 2 following Brazil’s presidential elections) as the industry deals with a steep drop in global steel prices and much of the world's stock markets seem to be tumbling into a bear market. The U.S.-China trade war is a major concern to the industry, given that the top steel importer decided to slap tariffs on the top steel producer, and an even greater concern to the overall health of the global economy as the two top economies go at each other back and forth with retaliations in the form of additional tariffs on US$ billions worth of goods.
