New research indicates that rear autobrake technology is quite effective.Insurance Institute for Highway SafetyRear autobrake, a crash avoidance technology that can detect an impending back-end collision with another vehicle in time to avoid or mitigate it, is quite effective. Backing crashes typically don’t result in serious injuries, but vehicles equipped with rear automatic braking (AEB) systems show a significant reduction in the number of collisions compared to those without them, sparring drivers the hassle of fender-benders and what could be costly repairs.Those are themain findings“Backing crashes generally happen at lower speeds than front-to-rear crashes,” Matt Moore, senior vice president of the Highway Loss Data Institute, said in a statement. “That means they’re less dangerous, but the costs from vehicle damage can add up.”Researchers, who based the inquiry on insurance claims data, found that vehicles equipped with rear AEB had 28 % fewer property damage liability claim
