photo: Getty Gartner recently released predictions that boldly stated that " 80% of Marketers Will Abandon Personalization Efforts by 2025 "By 2025, 80% of marketers who have invested in personalization will abandon their efforts due to lack of ROI, the perils of customer data management or both, according to Gartner, Inc. In fact, 27% of marketers believe data is the key obstacle I agree, and the fact that ads follow you across the web and the fact that marketers at random companies reach out with a false degree of familiarity can be creepy. The problem with most forms of marketing-driven personalization is not the personalization itself. The problem is that the personalization often only creates value for sellers, not buyers. Localized personalization, however, that delivers valuable information and experiences to individual buyers, is where I believe businesses need to focus their efforts.
