U.S. corporate bond decline at similar rate to emerging markets: BloombergDebt of American companies had their third-worst 100-day returns since 2000,Bloomberg reports, citing a JPMorgan Chase index.Also, a Bloomberg Barclays index of U.S. investment-grade credit is down 3.9% so far this year, while developing nations' dollar bonds have fallen at about the same rate.Though corporate America's earnings looks healthy, rising benchmark interest rates could lead to investment-grade debt with average duration of more than seven years. Securities with longer duration suffer stiffer losses when rates climb, and gain more when rates decline.Meanwhile, in developing countries, the stronger dollar and concerns about credit quality after taking on lots of debt make investors nervous.For the full year, JPMorgan strategists don't see corporate bond losses as dire as the past 100 days.
