Canada’s main stock index sat flat on Wednesday as the materials group got a boost from higher gold prices and as the healthcare sector rose, led by cannabis producers. The materials sector, which includes precious and base metals miners and fertilizer companies, added 1 per cent. Gold prices rose as the dollar weakened, indicating investors are starting to worry about the impact of the U.S.-China trade war on the U.S. economy, luring some buyers back into gold investments. Story continues below advertisement Shares of Oceanagold Corp. jumped 6.5 per cent in morning trading, while Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. rose 4.2 per cent. Goldcorp Inc. and Barrick Gold Corp. rose 1.6 per cent. Marijuana producers propelled health care stocks 5.1 per cent higher.
