Stock selloff intensifies as Chinese property developer solvency fears spook already-shaky markets The selloff in Canadian and U.S. stocks is building further momentum at midday, with major indexes now down more 2%. The TSX is on pace for its worst decline of the year. Worries about debt-engorged Chinese property developers — and the damage they could do to investors worldwide if they default — are rippling across markets and combining with other concerns that suggest to investors that stocks are overdue for a correction. At 12:06 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 663.66 points, or 1.92%, at 33,921.22, the S&P 500 was down 90.65 points, or 2.04%, at 4,342.34, and the Nasdaq Composite was down 380.55 points, or 2.53%, at 14,663.42, and was set for its worst day since May 12.
