Dillard's achieved solid comp sales growth and a 36% EPS increase last quarter. However, this sales and earnings recovery may not have staying power. Last Wednesday, Macy's ( NYSE:M ) reported surprisingly strong sales and earnings results for the first quarter of fiscal 2018. This big earnings beat helped investors gain confidence in the retailer's turnaround effort. A day later, Macy's smaller rival Dillard's ( NYSE:DDS ) followed with its own solid earnings report.
