Related news Macy's ( M ) earnings easily beat third-quarter estimates with a surprise gain, and the nation's biggest department store chain suggested a strong holiday quarter. But Macy's stock sold off sharply in Wednesday's stock market. Estimates : Earnings were expected to sink 43.5% to 13 cents a share. Revenue was seen rising 2% to $5.38 billion. Macy's same-store sales, which includes stores open for more than a year and online sales, has been projected to grow 2.5%, according to Consensus Metrix. Results : Macy's earnings came in at 27 cents a share, up 17%, on revenue of $5.404 billion, up 2.3%, but that fell short of other estimates for $5.41 billion. Comparable sales grew 3.1% on an owned basis and 3.3% on an owned plus licensed basis. Outlook : Full-year EPS is now seen at $4.10-$4.30, up from a prior view of $3.95-$4.15 and above consensus views for $4.03, on revenue growth of 0.3%-0.7%, up from a prior view of flat to 0.7%.
