Peltz is a founding partner of Trian, whose investment funds collectively own around 9.4 million Disney shares (ticker: DIS), a stake of less than 1%. In a letter to shareholders on Thursday, Trian asked shareholders to replace current board director Michael Froman with Peltz on the grounds that the current board of directors has “caused this recent destruction of value” at Disney. Froman is a Mastercard (MA) executive, and has been on Disney's board since September 2018 Trian chastised Disney for the stock's 44% slump in 2022, a decline in earnings since 2018, and the continued suspension of the company's dividend since 2020. “Shareholders need someone in the boardroom who is experienced enough, committed enough and objective enough to insist that Disney live up to its full potential,” the letter read.
