Roger Marshall (R-KS), came out against the proposed Visa ( V ) and Mastercard settlement on Monday, saying the pact doesn't provide enough protections for retailers Quick Insights The Act aims to reduce fees by requiring banks to offer a choice of networks, potentially lowering Visa and Mastercard's fee revenue. The Act could save merchants and consumers an estimated $17B annually, and lower swipe fees that cost families an extra $1,200 each year. Durbin believes the settlement offers only temporary concessions, allows Visa and Mastercard to change terms, and does not sufficiently protect retailers and consumers.
