Goldman Sachs analysts, however, still see Mattel ‘s stock as a buy. The NPD Group, a market research firm, said on Jan. 26 that U.S. retail sales of toys dropped 0.2% in 2022 versus 2021. On Friday, Hasbro (ticker: HAS) reported preliminary 2022 fourth-quarter numbers that showed revenue in its consumer product segment fell $1 billion, or 26%, from a year earlier. But Goldman Sachs analyst Stephen Laszczyk sees an opportunity—he assumed coverage of Mattel stock (MAT) with a Buy rating on Tuesday. He expects the maker of Barbies to grow earnings per share faster than Wall Street expects over the long term. Laszczyk's earnings estimates are 5% and 10% higher than Wall Street's consensus for 2024 and 2025, respectively, he writes. Shares of Mattel traded at $20.68 Wednesday morning, about 30% lower than Goldman's $26 price target.
