McDonald’s makes tweaks to the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder in quest for a hotter, juicier product McDonald's says it's focusing on beef amid the plant-based burger craze McDonald’s says a series of adjustments — none of them “hugely noticeable” — to how it makes its signature hamburgers will make for a hotter, juicier product as the fast food giant fends off pressure from rival chains that have added plant-based options to their menus. In an announcement Tuesday, the restaurant chain said the “suite of burger improvements” will mean shorter bun bottoms by three millimetres, an additional 10 millilitres of Big Mac Sauce to Big Macs and a reduction in its grill capacity by two patties. These adjustments have been in development for several years, the company said. McDonald’s Canada, along with McDonald’s Australia, is taking the lead on the rollout. Nicola Pitman, director of menu innovation and management, said during taste trials, customers struggled to pick out what exactly had changed.
