Bond bulls are unprepared for an end to Trump’s ‘tariff trumpeting’ A cessation of trade tensions could catch the bond bulls napping. Fears of a trade war between the U.S. and its trading partners have distracted investors from inflation concerns and other bearish forces that once threatened to send Treasury yields higher earlier this year. If President Donald Trump finds a way to end the “tariff trumpeting,” it would turn investors’ attention back to the fundamentals — improving U.S. growth and even faster inflation — and reignite a selloff in US. government paper, said Jim Vogel, interest-rate strategist for FTN Financial, in a note. Even as consumer prices clinched a six-year high in June , Treasurys have stayed range-bound in part because investors rushed into haven assets to take shelter from lingering trade fears. The 10-year Treasury yield TMUBMUSD10Y, +0.00% has struggled to make a return to its 3% level since May. And the 30-year bond yield TMUBMUSD30Y, +0.09% slipped
