The Match stock mystery may be tied to parent IAC/InterActiveCorp 's ( IAC ) plans to make a major acquisition, says one analyst. Match stock has been consolidating since October, when the company reported third-quarter earnings and forecast slowing growth for dating app Tinder amid higher investments. IAC could be stockpiling cash for a major acquisition, says a Jefferies analyst. Parent IAC, which owns 80% of Match, took in $440 million of the $560 million special dividend, analysts say. Brent Thill, analyst at Jefferies, noted in a report that the special dividend used up all the cash on Match's balance sheet. "With an estimated $3 billion in cash by year-end 2019 and a history of utilizing cash and stock in past deals, IAC has the capacity for larger-scale M&A.," Thill said in a report published on Wednesday.
