Shares in the NetEase Inc. unit, which raised 3.28 billion Hong Kong dollars (US$420.9 million) in its initial public offering, were at HK$200.20 in afternoon trade, 2.3% below the IPO price. The company's valuation looks expensive to Essence International. It notes that Cloud Village's price-to-sales ratio--the value investors place on a company in comparison to its revenue--is much higher than that of Tencent Music Entertainment Group, the industry leader in China. Based on 2020 revenue, Cloud Village's offer price puts its valuation at more than 6 times, which compares with 2.6 times for Tencent Music. Due to their high valuation and to subdued sentiment toward tech shares, Cloud Village's shares likely won't outperform in the short term, Essence said.
