Neurotrope And Alzheimer's Disease: A Placebo Problem Or A Placebo Solution? Summary Three patients with severe Alzheimer's disease showed considerable improvement while taking the placebo in the bryostatin-1 clinical trial. At least one of the dilutents - povidone - likely helped some of those taking both bryostatin-1 and the placebo because it increased concentrations of antioxidants. Certain antioxidants have improved cognition in people with late Alzheimer's disease. The combination of bryostatin-1 with selective antioxidants would enhance the beneficial aspects of bryostatin-1 while mitigating the negative effects of bryostatin-1. If some individuals in the placebo group continue to improve over the course of a longer trial, then the explanation as to why becomes crucial and not just to Neurotrope.
