But the deal is still expensive, as it accounted for slightly more than a year's worth of free cash flow (FCF). It also required Microsoft to cough up more than half of its cash and short-term investments balance of $131B at the end of FQ1'22. Nevertheless, we believe that the deal is a must for Microsoft. The company needs a deal of this extent to ramp up its competitiveness in the consumer gaming segment where NVIDIA Corporation (NVDAFBAMZNGOOGLTherefore, the deal is truly massive, and we think it is transformational if passed and executed with aplomb by Microsoft. The synergies from its Xbox franchise and ATVI's global gaming IP and diversified platform stretch well beyond gaming.
