Southern waterfront communities Hilton Head Island, Bluffton and Beaufort, South Carolina. The metro area ranked No. 1 in the fourth quarter of 2022 on The Wall Street Journal/Realtor.com Emerging Housing Markets Index, released Wednesday, shooting up from 12th place the previous quarter. The region, often referred to as the Low Country, attracts buyers interested in amenities such as boating, golf and miles of beaches—and the warm weather to match. Plus, buyers coming from high-cost areas see they can get a lot more for their money in the area, according to Catherine Donaldson of the Bluffton-based Donaldson Group at Daniel Ravenel Sotheby's International Realty.
